We'll Repeal The 14th Amendment When You Let Us Repeal the 2nd Amendment

Wow, Republicans really like changing the Constitution with the likes of gay marriage and now the 14th Amendment yet the 2nd Amendment is completely off limits for them. Why is that? Other than they don't like people who are different and therefore need the guns to shoot them.

Let's not tamper with the 1st Amendment, after all that's why we're all here.

Z-Man: It's a rather mainstream idea on the Left that the First Amendment should be gutted in order to criminalize criticism of those in power.

Dmarks:

No, that was the Bush administration.

Actually, the First Amendment was rather strong during the Bush administration.

Dissent flourished more than ever before, and efforts to censor the media (Fairness Doctrine, etc) were resisted, and the trend toward more and diverse voices in the media continued.

"We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from two thousand miles away.... Staying in the airplane when it hits the building-say what you want about that, it's not cowardly."

What happened to Bill Maher after that comment?? The Presidents own press secretary said that "he needed to watch what he (and all Americans) say".

"those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty...your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve," and "they give ammunition to America's enemies and pause to America's friends."
John Ashcroft 2001

Look up EXECUTIVE ORDER 13233

The Patriot Act was one of the biggest slaps in the face to the 1st Amendment in history. But if you prefer the Federal Government to have that much power and take away the power of the people I suppose that is why you are a big government republican.

Bill Maher? What happened to him? He's had numerous TV appearances, books, movies. Gets richer and richer. All the while he is able to vent hate speech against people who don't share his religion, and to declare that disabled people arent human beings.

The Patriot Act did not slap the First Amendment. The worst slap ever was the Fairness Doctrine, wbich demanded that press content only be what the government considers to be "Fair".

How many more millions more does Michael Moore have to make for you to believe the facts that there was no "chill" ?

Toad734 said...

Hate speech? He doesn't even have a religion. Disabled people aren't human beings?? Where do you get this shit?

Who keeps lying to you?

No,the fairness doctrine did not slap the First Amendment. The worst slap ever was the Patriot Act which demanded that people watch what they say and who to hang out with and what religion they can be without raising suspicion of the government allowing them to be monitored without a warrant and suspending their constitutional rights.

Actually, both the fairness doctrine and the Patriot Act took away our constitutional rights...When did you ever hear me talk about the Fairness doctrine?

Chill?? Michael Moore?? What?? Do you drink a lot?

Thought the Fairness Doctrine has never been seriously on the table in many years, it gets brought up periodically by Right Wingers...their favorite straw man. Fact: The Fairness Doctrine is not in effect, so any kvetching about it is a moot point. Fact: The Patriot Act, with its crushing of the Constitution actually did go through.

Toad: Bill Maher is a strong atheist, and is thus professing a faith. He's also a major religious bigot, with an Ayatollah-like intolerance for those who do not share his views.

As for the part about disabled people not being human beings, I got it from Bill Maher. It's his shit. Do a search on bill maher handicapped kids dogs. You asked who was lying to me. I guess it was Bill Maher.

The right did not make any big deal about Maher's hate speech. The left did not (Obama and Rahm Emanual like to bash disabled people with Special Olympic jokes and "retard" insults). It was the disability community that lit up over this one. Do some checking into things before you flap.

"No, the fairness doctrine did not slap the First Amendment"

It not only slapped it, it did away with it on TV and radio.

Amp: Actually, it gets brought up by left-wingers, not right-wingers.

There are currently several Democrats in Congress who want to bring it back, and some Obama officials are sympathetic to the idea.

And no, it is not a moot point to kvetch about it any time someone tries to bring back a very bad idea. Like Proposition 8. Remember that one? Or should we just sit down and shut up when people try to take our rights away and only wait until the threats reach critical mass?

By the way, the Patroit Act did not crush the Constitution. Not in while or in any part.

Bill Maher actually isn't an Atheist, he's agnostic. He has never professed that he knows there is no god. Having no faith is not faith. He does not censor anyone, kill anyone, or arrest anyone for disagreeing with him so he is certainly not anything like the Ayatollah.

Talking about the fairness doctrine is like talking about Jim Crowe laws as if it were a current issue. Next!

Wait, so what rights did prop 8 take away from you?

I didn't' know you were gay.

Moore made a movie(or book) called Stupid White Men. Then some guy made a book called Limbaugh is a big fat idiot. Now, there's a book called Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man. Wonder what it's about. I like that the title is a parody of the other titles.
