New Fundamentalist Town to be Exempt from Constitution and Restrict Freedoms. No, It's not in Saudi Arabia, it's in Florida!

From CNN: Thursday, March 2, 2006; Posted: 11:36 a.m. EST (16:36 GMT)
NAPLES, Florida (AP) -- If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control.

So does this mean that I can build a town that won't allow anyone to sell Bibles, practice Christianity, go to Church, preach on the streets or protest Planned Parenthoods and adult book stores? Can I build a town that will make guns, free speech and religion illegal? In this town, can I also make prostitution, heroin, same sex marriages, drunk driving, racial discrimination and poll taxes legal? I think my town I will also pass out condoms to elementary school kids and offer free abortions to anyone who had premarital sex. Apparently this town in Florida is already handing out free lobotomies.

Catholics already have their own city, it’s called Vatican City. I would suggest moving there where the laws and the constitution may be a little less intrusive to your ultimate goal.

Of course, Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida, was at the groundbreaking and lauded Monaghan’s vision. What a jackass! At first, it sounded like they were trying to create a town without bush.

"...no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control." They forgot to add "Altar boys, on the other hand, will be required to wear a zipper over their ass."

No guns? You almost had my vote.

I was just trying to think of as many unconstitutional things I could. That brings up a good question though; would this town allow guns you think? Clearly Jesus was a member of the NRA but when I think of hunters and outdoorsman I typically don't think Catholics and Florida.

Grant said...

I've never heard the Catholic stance on guns; they seem to be a non-issue with them.

I remember Monaghan announcing years ago that he planned to erect the world's largest crucifix, but it seems like he has expanded on his plans.

Toad734 said...

His crucifix is included in this project. If he likes crucifix's so much why doesn't he just nail himself to this one?

I think guns are only ok when they are assasinating abortion doctors and planned parenthood employees.

I saw this too and thought it was also pretty interesting that Geb was there to celebrate the groundbreaking, stating that he was happy about a place for "like minded people". Thats doublespeak for brainwashing.

Great ,

I did not know about this man.
Now I have to split my passinate hatred for carl's junior with dominos. I might be too bitter but it makes me feel gross to think my money goes into funding for this person's ideas. I'm so negative today

"...faith and freedom will merge to create a community of like-minded citizens."

Freedom?! Are they kidding? Can a statement be more oxy-moronic than that? (I'm sure oxy-moronic is not a word, however, seems fitting at the moment...)

As if manipulating the masses via organized religion isn't enough...now they get an entire town?

Mind-boggling, indeed.

I say let em have it. We can ship all the fundies to FL. It'll be like a quarantine for dooshes.

Sweetcake....they have these kinds of places all over the country. They're called condominium covenants communities.
Lots of them don't even allow people to hang US flags...and stuff.

Also...can't perform a legal activity in a PRIVATELY owned business in my state...
Then we get to the Amish communities....etc etc etc.

TOaD...I'd never expect you to acknowledge that your "outrage" here is absolutely moronic and based on your anti-Christian bias. But c'mon....

Toad734 said...

Sondra,

I have no idea what you are talking about not performing illegal activities in privately owned businesses.

As far as the Amish is concerned, they don't ask for our tax money for schools, ask for garbage pick up, water service, gas pipe lines, sewers etc. Do you really think this guy is going to build his own desalinization facility, water treatment plants etc. or do you think he is going to want state tax money for that? If the state is flipping the bill then he has to play by the states rules and cannot forbid someone their civil rights. The Amish can do it because they are self sustained and are not supported by atheist, Jewish, Muslim and pagan tax money.

So are you saying that this town is not a moronic idea? The point is that if you can take a section of the country and say our current laws and civil rights no longer apply then why stop at cursing, rap music and abortion?

Would you support a town that allowed absolutely no guns what so ever and didn't allow gay bars to operate because the people were gay? It’s the same thing but just replace gays and guns with Christians. Wait, what a great idea.

Last time I checked hanging a US flag on a porch owned by a collective was not a constitutional right.

I'm not going to get sucked into an endless debate with you TOaD....like you say, you're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.

The perspectus of this town is nothing about what you're ranting about.
They are going to decide AS A COLLECTIVE WHAT IS SOLD...

Cripes, more places DO NOT sell porn than do already.

You just like being angry at something.

And more often than not it's Christianity.

Night. Sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite!

Toad734 said...

Then why do you and all your uber-capitalist friends bitch about people trying to block wal-marts and gun shops from springing up in their neighborhoods?

What does "more places DO NOT sell porn than do already" mean? Are you drunk?

Toad734 said...

Oh, and maybe you better check if I am the one that’s angry with Christianity or if it’s really Christianity always angry and bitching about something such as gay marriage, ID, prayers in schools, abortions, free speech, gambling, porn, etc. I am merely pointing out their hypocrisies. They are the ones always complaining about something.

See how skillfully SondraK sidestepped there? This is an example of the use of "deflection" in an argument. Note how her response dismissed Toad's statement about the Amish as false without directly addressing it, and allowed her to remove herself from further discussion without having to admit defeat.

Classic. *wild applause*

On a lighter note, I firmly support the creation of a city made from chedder. That would be a tasty place to live.

Toad734 said...

...as long as beer flowed from the faucets.

The typical response you get from conservatives or neocons is "youre off your meds again", or "you are so far out there that it's not worth debating you." Thats how they typically "win" their arguments.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't talking to you abberant. TOaD knows why I don't debate with him.

When you stop an endless argument with your 3 year old over candy, is that admitting defeat or victory? No, it's being the adult.

Just because I don't care to spend my free time talking to you in depth means just that. I. Don't. Care. About. You.

Last time I'll address you.

TOaD..it means what it says.
Mervyns doesn't sell porn. PetSmart doesn't sell porn....MOST places do not sell porn.

TOaD...you do the same shit on my blog so cut it.
I rather have a fond spot for you...ruin it, it's your perogative. But don't act like you don't pull the same crap you just accused neo-cons and conservatives of. Cripes, I don't even know WTF a neo con is.
"what are you drunk"?
Is that supposed to be different from "are you off your meds"?

And I didn't say anything that wasn't a proven observation, TOaD.

Toad734 said...

Off your meds and are you drunk are not the same. Your phrase didn't make sense, plain and simple. When the neocons say "off your meds" that is because they don't have a come back for the information that was just presented. Of course I didn't have a comeback for what you said because I don't know what you meant.

Most places don't sell porn, most places dont sell guns, whats your point. The point is that they wouldn't allow a place to open if it sold porn, performed abortions or sold 50 cent cds. No one knows for sure how these rules would be enforced and who would enforce them it just opens a lot of scary doors. What makes me think they would stop with just one town?

Of course, there is already a Utah but taking nude photos is still legal and you can still get an abortion.

And no, I don't do the same shit on your blog. I always present data and evidence to support my claims and arguments and you always call me a loonie socialist. Pictures of frogs jerking off does not count as being "adult". Your readers always start in with ad hominem attacks and skirt the issues and just talk about their ideal world and express their opinions, not facts.

A neocon is like a moonbat only opposites. You tell me what a moonbat is and I'll tell you what a neocon is.

TOaD...we rag on EVERYTHING....finding humor in all this shit is a means of survival.
And you should see how pretty I am because I don't allow my brows to furrow all the time:)

Besides...you came stomping into my blog flinging feces from the get-go. THAT is why no one takes you seriously.
You've said some pretty ungentlemanly things to me, too.
We're elephants....and we never forget:)

My blog and readers/contributors are the most divers group of people I have ever encountered in my life, and we hardly all always agree on everything.
If you didn't pick one post out of 200 everytime you popped in to comment you'd see that. YOUR lack of paying attention is not my problem...and most of the stuff you try to lure us into has already been "discussed" to death. We read, too....just because we don't cut and past every document we come across doesn't mean we haven't read it, heard about it, talked about it....
Our opinions HAVE been formed by those very "facts" you seem to hold so holy. Problem with that is....most "facts" are skewed and manipulated by someone somewhere and it's up to a discerning person to get to the bottom of them.
For example: Global warming is not a FACT.

Write this on your notepad:
Commenting on blogs is not writing a thesis. If someone's spending that much time editing and diatribing in blog comments then there's definitely a lack of something in their life.
Just my opinion and I practice that.

Toad734 said...

As far as feces are concerned I think you are thinking of Bruiser.

I do read a lot of other posts, I only post on the ones that I totally agree with or totally disagree with, or the one I find to be incomplete bullshit.

Global warming is a fact; the cause of global warming is the debate. Does the earth go through cooling and warming cycles? Absolutely, remember the ice age? Thank God for global warming in that instance. Do vehicle and coal emissions produce greenhouse gases that trap reflected heat in the atmosphere? Absolutely. Is the earth going through a natural warming trend as it would on its own or are we causing it? Is it a little bit of both? That is the debate you are referring to.

I expect you to rally for this poor woman's plight. They are trying to take away her 1st Amendment rights!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I cannot believe it!
HELP HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toad734 said...

Sure I support her. I hate all those housing association rules and they can sometimes intrude on you rights. I agree that they shouldn't allow someone to have a primered car with no engine on blocks in the middle of their yard for 6 months but that isn't about freedom of expression. The way she should approach this is that anyone who puts a "for sale" sign up in their yard needs to be fined as well. I also don't think you should be allowed to post business advertisement up in your yard but again, that isn't a constitutional right. Also, not all constitutional rights are without limit; I cannot yell fire in a theater and I have to wait a few days for a hand gun so I don't know. I would assume that she is also not allowed to have a satellite dish or an above ground pool in her yard either. Since this ordinance is not targeting speech directly it is probably legal. It would be worth it for her to contact a lawyer.

I'll pass on making a post out of it as I am sure you have your team of experts already pondering the legality of this.

this south dakota thing is pissing me off. I'm too angry to say anything. can someone vent about it? TOAD?

"I wasn't talking to you abberant."

Technically, I wasn't talking to you either. I was talking about you.

---

"Just because I don't care to spend my free time talking to you in depth means just that. I. Don't. Care. About. You."

Yet you seem to spend a lot of time reading and posting comments.

---

"Mervyns doesn't sell porn. PetSmart doesn't sell porn ... MOST places do not sell porn."

Now that is a statment of logic.

---

"Last time I'll address you."

Wait, are you still talking to me? Or was that one aimed at Toad? You're bouncing around a lot.

*yawn* I should stop reading blogs before bedtime. Goodnight all.

Who buys porn anymore? I assume people in this town will be allowed the internet.

And will they bar the conservative men from meeting each other after midnight in the park for anonymous sex?

Toad734 said...

No, but the priests will still be able to bang little altar boys.

Anonymous said...

They've got Catholic fundies now? Next thing you know, they'll start reading some kind of freedom of association into the Constitution.

There are places that sell pornography, and others that do not. I believe that if you were to count the all of the places that sell pornography, you would arrive at a number, which would be smaller than the number of places that do not sell pornography. I miss being able to blame Ashcroft for all of those damn non-porn places.
