McPain

Ya, I know, I need to write my own stuff and stop posting chain letters.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* If you grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, it's a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of an oil rich state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a true Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America 's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

yet another horrible example of deregulation.

keep it up and I'll start sending you the chain email I get. Then I listen to you whine. BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

No need, I'm already on the parents list.

Did you know Obama was an American hating Muslim?

Patrick M said...

Yeah, heard that one. Filed it in the same place I file the Sarah Palin trailer park trash shit. Most of the people whose votes will decide this do.

Toad734 said...

So do they not have news papers where these people live? What about CNN or something like that? I know it's not as interesting as dancing with the stars but come on.

However, what I just posted is true, Obama is not a Muslim and Palin doesn't live in a trailer. I mean, you could find some reasonable similarities between her family and many of those who live in trailer parks but my grandma lives in a trailer so I am only one generation from trailer trash. Just shows you, yes, anyone and perhaps everyone can be President.,....Scary.

Clarification on my comment (due to misspelling): Most thinking people have the sense to pay enough attention (after Dancing with the Stars) to know the difference between smears and facts.

Just shows you, yes, anyone and perhaps everyone can be President.,....Scary.

Actually, that fills me with the hope that this country is not totally fucked yet. That's the same hope that means people like Barack Obama and Sarah Palin have a chance.

Toad734 said...

So you want your pool guy to be President? The guy who screwed up your Arby's order to be President. If that's the case, go ahead and vote for Palin.

Patrick M said...

You're going to convince me to do so if you keep it up.

Toad734 said...

Seriously, I know you are voting for Barr. You know McCain is a liberal in wolves clothing.

Patrick M said...

No, I'm not. Barr dissed the troops by calling them 'occupiers'. If he corrects that, then I'll vote for him. But he seems to want to appeal to the Ron Paul crowd (while simultaneously pissing them off). So while I agree with him more than anyone out there on most things, he lost my vote.

So we aren't occupying Iraq?

Are we just disoposing of all those WMDs to make it safe for the Iraqis?

Oh right, we are liberatinig Iraq.

So if I break into my neighbors house and take his TV I am liberating it, not stealing it? Just like Columbus "discovered" America and since he discovered it, it was his to do what he wanted. Very ethnocentric way of thinking.

Patrick M said...

Toad, sometimes you tire me out with your bad moral relativity arguments.

So we aren't occupying Iraq?
...
Oh right, we are liberatinig Iraq.

Glad you remember. When we have left a prospering free country, you'll know we did good.

What Iraq has to do with your other statements....

You mean when the one secular regime in the Middle East which was of no threat to us becomes a theocracy engaged in a civil war where Iran basically controls half of the country. Is that when I'll know we did good? Or would it be after over 4000 troops die and a trillion dollars has been spent.

Moral relativity or not, is that worse than being so ethnocentric you can't look at your country through the rest of the worlds eyes? You know, the rest of the world isn't evil and crazy with America being the one light of sense, morality and civility.

Patrick M said...

...becomes a theocracy engaged in a civil war where Iran basically controls half of the country.

No. That's a loss. But that's not what's happening now, so....

I can look at things with eyes other than American. And I can't say everything we've ever done was a noble act. I can only deal with what we are now and what we try to do in the world (and we generally try to do good), as well as the motivation of our leaders (Bush, in this case).

And right or wrong, I still believe that Bush got us into Iraq because he believed it was the right thing to do. Now the facts after the fact obviously don't match the promises, but it comes down to trusting my instincts about him. And even with the many questions I have, I don't doubt that.

There's a difference between bad intentions and bad results. And it's that distinction that separates the people who question the war from the ideologically insane.

To give you another example: Clinton allegedly had the opportunity to take out Bin Laden, and he failed. However, had he known about what would happen on 9/11, he would have made sure the trigger got pulled. Many of our presidents have made bad decisions, or political decisions. But I can't think of one who would willingly sacrifice thousands of our troops for stupid or wholly selfish reasons, especially if there was no chance for victory.

While it takes a lot of bullshit and politicking to get to the presidency, it's not a job for someone who doesn't believe he can guide the country the right way. In other words, they all begin with good intentions.

Interesting conversation between a liberal and conservative. My take:

First of all, to wallybanners: using the Keating 5 is like saying anyone investigated, but never arrested nor convicted, is still guilty. McCain was exonorated, so quit lying about it.

Liberals don't think that the average person can take care of their own business. Their belief is that if a few intelligent, liberal oriented, well-educated people get together, they can solve the problems of society. This has been their point of reference for centuries, in one form or another. Hence, their violent reaction to Sara Palin. Obama has done everything expected of an elite, so therefore he's ok. But Palin hasn't, and has done much was most Americans do, though she is a governor. But that's not enough, unless she was a liberal governor from Mass. And another point about the original post: Obama has not served 4 years in the Senate yet. Nor has he sponsored 131 bills. Yea maybe his name appears on many, but that doesn't mean squat and is not really an accomplishment, is it? He probably hasn't even voted yea or nay on that many. Usually he votes "present." For the last 18 months he's been campaigning. Just stick to the facts, huh?

I could go on about Iraq, but there are a few facts: Iraq was a threat, and our intention was to liberate and disarm. Good intentions. But run badly. I thought intentions were more important than outcomes (acccording to the liberal mindset), but I guess only if it's an liberal originating the idea.

Take the current financial mess. Certainly a Democrat created mess, with good intentions, but a disaster for the country. Let's see Barney and company dance their way out of it.

Steve:

Character! Judgment!

Obama is the one who has never been convicted of a crime yet is called a terrorist because he has met a guy who, guess what, has never been convicted of a crime.

What does someone running their own business have to do with anything? Conservatives, sure, they think they can trust drug, mortgate, banking companies so they deregulate them but as it turns out, no, they really can't run those themselves because the CEOs are willing to buy bad debt to make their short term profits look good when really, its just a pyramid scheme and a profit on paper, not real money and then guess what? Our entire financial system collapses. So nice try.

Ok, in 3 months it will have been 4 years. Should I have just said 3 1/2 years?

Enron, AIG, Those are messes created by the guy who wrote McCain's Economic policy, Phil Gramm. The 2 bills he wrote were directly resonsible for both of those. McCain, the "Deregulator" has always voted for deregulation and deregulation is what allowed all these companies to give loans to homeless people and count them as profits. The Democrats have only been in control of congress for a year and a half. The Republicans have been in charge of Washington since 2000. Again, nice try.
