CIA Leak and Karl Rove

"I didn't know her name and didn't leak her name"- Karl Rove

"If Matt Cooper is going to jail to protect a source, it's not Karl he's protecting." -Robert D. Luskin, Karl Roves Attorney

"He was not involved" -Scott McClellan about Rove and the CIA leak

"The President knows that Karl Rove wasn't involved," "It was a ridiculous suggestion," and, "It's not true." - Scott McClellan

"If someone in this administration leaked classified information, they will no longer be a part of this administration, because that's not the way this White House operates, that's not the way this President expects people in his administration to conduct their business." -Scott McClellan, White House Press Secretary

So we know this administration lied about WMD, and now we know they have essentially committed treason and lied about this as well; I wonder what else they aren't telling us?

Intelligence Identities Protection Act:
SUBCHAPTER IV--PROTECTION OF CERTAIN NATIONAL SECURITY INFORMATION

Sec. 421. Protection of identities of certain United States
undercover intelligence officers, agents, informants, and
sources

(a) Disclosure of information by persons having or having had access to classified information that identifies covert agent

Whoever, having or having had authorized access to classified
information that identifies a covert agent, intentionally discloses any
information identifying such covert agent to any individual not
authorized to receive classified information, knowing that the
information disclosed so identifies such covert agent and that the
United States is taking affirmative measures to conceal such covert
agent's intelligence relationship to the United States, shall be fined
not more than $50,000 or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both

I like the idea of prison more than the 50,000; he puts more than that in the collection plate at church every Sunday!

Both. I say both. But he has to earn the $50k while he's in prison, from the prison coffers, doing prison work (license plates, whatever) And no cheating by selling sexual favors.
(Not fair to get paid for having fun.)

Prison favors... Fun?

I think he would learn to hate the phrase "squeal like a pig".

This is Jeff Gannon's be-otch, remember?
(Or was it the other way around?) Plus,
he's used to sadistically puttin' the wood
to people. Yeah, I think he'd like it in there.
I bet he makes Rummy spank him daily.

Maybe he should do his ten years at Gitmo. That way the people he put in danger can be the ones to soften him up.
Besides isn't treason a death sentence?

Giving up Rove would be like giving up Bush or Cheney- from this administration. It would be disastrous.

The best we might get is Rummy, but I admit that I had some early excitement at the word that Rove was definately the leaker that this may be the point a lot of us have waited for.

The spin machine is on and in overdrive, and the truth is lost in a maze of rhetoric and doubletalk...

Either way its good to have something to hope for-

Yeah, you're right 7734. Poor persecuted Karl! We should cut him some slack. Ok, maybe he can pay half of his fine with money he already has, and earn the rest in his 7 year jail sentence any way he wants to earn it. (How's that Toad?)

We could just sentence him to 10 years of reading you guy's blogs...
No, wait, that would be cruel and unusual punishment...

I think the real sad thing is that people are hoping that they might seriously go after Rove.

Seriously investigating and holding him accountable for anything he did should only be a logical first step. Finding out whether or not he acted alone and who else knew is more important than even Rove.

But I am relatively sure that Rove will be found guilty of nothing more serious that feeding Plame Orange Chicken. It may come out that someone accidentally used her name in relation to the CIA near an air vent and the wind blew a few drops onto Cooper's notebook.

Send him to Gitmo or Abu Ghraib. Let him enjoy some of those fraternity pranks that OxyContin Limbaugh thinks are so harmless.
